STATUS: Full Time (28 hours per week)

The Bookkeeper Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Bookkeeper in the day to day administration of the Centre’s finances, including payroll, financial reports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and government remittances under the supervision of the Bookkeeper. The Bookkeeper Assistant will provide both financial and clerical support to the Bookkeeper in the urban area of North Bay.
The Bookkeeper Assistant will work under the daily supervision of the Bookkeeper, and is ultimately accountable to the Executive Director.
The responsibilities of the Bookkeeper Assistant will include assisting the Bookkeeper with:
 maintaining books of account (including but not limited to payroll, preparing cheques, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations)
 preparing monthly/quarterly financial statements for program staff in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
 maintaining a series of accounting/bookkeeping spreadsheets for matters such as receipt of operating revenue, records of gifts and donations, purchases, assets, endowment fund contributions, multiple deferred revenue accounts, depreciation, accruals
 completing monthly reconciliations of accounts receivable and accounts payable subsidiary ledgers to general ledger control accounts
 maintaining financial policies and procedures
 examining and processing all purchase orders, cheque requisitions, invoices and receipts submitted
 examining and submitting all expense claims submitted to the OFIFC
 assisting in the preparation of remittances; WSIB, EHT, Payroll Source Deductions and HST
 Preparing payroll bi-weekly and issuing Records of Employment when employees leave the NBIFC
 maintaining an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and bookkeeping activities
 performing monthly bank reconciliations
 conduct banking
 maintaining year-end working papers and spreadsheets
 scanning of financial documents in an electronic format and maintaining a complete and systematic filing system
 special projects as assigned
 Minimum a combination of 1-2 years of education and experience in bookkeeping
 An understanding of urban Indigenous people’s issues and needs
 Ability to deal with customers and vendors in a considerate, open-minded, and compassionate manner
 Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite of software
 Strong knowledge of Sage 50 accounting software (formerly Simply Accounting)
 Ability to exert care and control over the NBIFC assets and records and establish procedures for safeguarding, including security and computer backup
 Excellent oral and written communication skills
 Ability to work independently and as part of a team
 Maintains personal and professional integrity, and handles confidential information with discretion
 Valid driver’s license with clean abstract, appropriate insurance, and access to reliable transportation
 Criminal record check is required
 Ability to work flexible hours
