Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker

 

The Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker (AHOW) is part of the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy, known as AHWS.  The AHOW will provide various services that promote healthier lifestyles, violence free families, and physical fitness and encourage empowerment for program clients and participants.

 

The goals of the program are to provide education through various methods such as Health Fairs, workshops etc…

  • ·        Sexual Health

  • ·        Medicine Teachings

  • ·        Cultural Teachings

Other services are…

Peer Counselling

When you need someone to listen to you without judgment and maybe for a referral to a professional counselling centre.

Referrals

Referrals can be made internally or externally depending on your individual needs.

Advocacy

AHOW can be your voice and provide or seek the information you require and relay it in a manner that you understand within aboriginal services or non-aboriginal services.

AHOW also assists those who have difficulty speaking a non-aboriginal language (we can attain a translator) and/or for those who are illiterate complete various forms. Confidentiality is assured in this matter.
