The Aboriginal Head Start / School's Cool Program is offered to Aboriginal pre-school children, to prepare them for Kindergarten. There will be many exciting and age appropriate activities for the children. This program runs in July and in August. Here is a brief overview of what the program consists of

 

Aboriginal Culture and Language
Will be a very important part of the program through Art, Music, Language, Stories and teachings.

Education
Development of school readiness skills (e.g. word and number concepts, social skills). The program will include intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development.

Health Promotion
The program will include a healthy lifestyle program (healthy eating, safety, etc...). Regular physical activity (to promote an active lifestyle).

Nutrition
Encourage healthy eating habits. The program will provide the children with food, according to their nutritional needs.

Social Support Program
Involvement of local service groups provided in projects throughout the program.

Parental and Family Involvement
Aboriginal Head Start acknowledges parents as the child's first teachers. We encourage parental/family involvement in the program (e.g. volunteering time, sharing knowledge with children, feedback about the program, etc...)

This program is funded by the Ontario Regional Office Health Promotion and Programs Branch, Health Canada. Nutritious foods are provided for all students attending the program. If you require transportation please advise the program coordinator.
