YOUTH ASSISTANT

(Urban Multi-Purpose Aboriginal Youth Program)

North Bay Indian Friendship Centre

Part-Time (28hrs/wk) -1 YEAR

 

Applications will be received by North Bay Indian Friendship Centre up until 4:00pm TUESDAY 4:00 PM, MARCH 21, 2006 for the YOUTH ASSISTANT

 

Supervision: Employed by the North Bay Indian Friendship Centre, responsible to the policies and direction as determined by the Board of Directors of the Friendship Centre and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director.

 

Area of Responsibility:       To ensure the effective delivery of the URBAN MULTI-PURPOSE ABORIGINAL YOUTH PROGRAM such that the needs of aboriginal children 13-24 years of age

 

Basic Qualifications:

·          Post-secondary degree or diploma in a Recreation Program or Human Services field and/or equivalent work experience in Sports and Recreation and in working with youth.

·          Demonstrates ability to work with youth in recreational programming.

·          Ability to facilitate and organize various recreational programming.

·          Knowledge in the Aboriginal Culture and Traditional Practices.

·          Ability to plan, organize and implement culture workshops/activities for youth.

·          Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

·          Knowledge and experience working with computers.

·          Leadership skills

·          Good interpersonal and social skills

·          Good organizational skills

·          Must have current valid First Aid/CPR certificate; or willing to obtain

·          Satisfactory Criminal records check

·          Must be available after-school, evening, and/or weekend programming

·          Knowledge of aboriginal culture is a definite asset

·          Must have valid driver’s license

·          Preference will be given to persons of Aboriginal Ancestry.
